'Will go to the grave with me': Rangers fans will love latest Gerrard claim about key Ibrox day

Rangers fans will love comments about the 2020/21 campaign made by Steven Gerrard in the club’s official souvenir magazine.

In his third season as Gers boss, he managed to turn the tide and finally bring major silverware back to Ibrox.

He did it in emphatic fashion, too, with champion status secured by early March and a final winning margin of 25 points for his team of invincibles.

It was a first league win for the ex-Liverpool star as a player or a manager and he says he’ll remember the joyous scenes in March for the rest of his life.

“When we beat St Mirren at Ibrox on March 6, a result which put us so close to getting over the line to become champions for the 55th time, every player and member of staff rightly enjoyed it and got lost in the moment – I did as well,” he said [Glasgow Times].

“The scenes at the stadium with the supporters will go to the grave with me, as will the celebrations at the training ground the next day when Celtic could only draw at Tannadice and we were officially crowned as champions.

“To finish the campaign with a 4-0 win over Aberdeen at home before we got our hands on the trophy was the icing on the cake and it was one of the best and proudest days of my football career.”

Some supporters weren’t totally convinced by Gerrard ahead of the 2020/21 campaign but he won even the most dubious Bears over with the stunning league triumph.

Fans expressed their appreciation before, during and after the St Mirren fixture and once again on trophy day and it shows how much the club now means to the 41-year-old that the title ranks as a career highlight, given that he won the Champions League, multiple FA Cups and over 100 England caps as a player.

Supporters will hope that his memories of what succeeding at Rangers is like fuels a desire to defend the title next season and to convert league dominance into domestic trophy success.

Gerrard will hope to have Ryan Kent at his disposal for 2021/22, here’s what a journalist said after being asked about the chances of the winger joining Leeds United.
