Journalist responds when asked about chances of Rangers star Ryan Kent joining Leeds this summer

Alan Nixon has responded on Twitter after being asked by a Leeds fan for a verdict on the chances of Rangers winger Ryan Kent joining The Whites this summer.

There was plenty of speculation regarding Kent last summer, with the Sun journalist at the centre of much of the reporting.

Steven Gerrard confirmed in August 2020 that the Light Blues had rejected an offer from the Premier League club [Sky Sports], which was believed to be in the region of £10m.

Nixon then provided an update a day later suggesting that a £14m bid would follow as Marcelo Bielsa was ‘unwilling to give up the fight’ for Kent [The Scottish Sun].

By the end of the month, though, speculation had died down and Nixon tweeted that a deal was ‘now difficult’.

The transfer window eventually closed with the winger still a Rangers player and he went on to star in the Gers’ Premiership title win, scoring ten goals and notching eleven assists from 37 league appearances.

His 2020/21 exploits impressed many and on Sunday evening, a Leeds fan contacted Nixon on Twitter looking for an update on the situation.

“This still have a chance of being revived this year?” he asked.

“No sign of any encouragement,” responded Nixon.

This response will provide plenty of relief to Rangers fans, given how important Kent is to the team’s playing style.

The 24-year-old has made the left inside forward position his own at Ibrox with his pace, trickery and excellent work rate.

Of course, Leeds not returning to the negotiating table doesn’t necessarily mean that no one else will register interest this summer.

However, with other key men like Glen Kamara and Alfredo Morelos currently strongly linked with exits, Bears will hope Kent speculation is kept to a minimum.

Rangers themselves have been linked with a number of wingers this summer, but one sealed a transfer elsewhere over the weekend.
