Why Rangers star had to send apologies after St Johnstone win

Rangers star Kemar Roofe was forced to offer his apologies after the victory over St. Johnstone – for missing his daughter’s birthday.

The on-form Ibrox striker played around 70 minutes in Perth and opened the scoring for Rangers as they ran out 3-0 winners in Perth.

But Kemar would take to social media after the match to apologise to his daughter Alarnie for missing her birthday party to start the match for Rangers at McDiarmid Park.

“Alarnie, sorry I missed your birthday party princess, but we had 3pts to get!” wrote Roofe on Twitter.

Roofe, 27, has been on fine form since joining Rangers in the summer for a reported fee of £3.5m from Anderlecht [Scottish Sun] in the summer.

The striker has scored five of his last six Scottish Premiership matches – a total of seven goals – and has eleven in total ever since joining the Gers.

Roofe showed predatory striker’s instincts to follow in on a rebound from an Ianis Hagi cross in the first half and that strike followed on from a double in the weekend’s 3-1 win over Motherwell.

It was a nice touch to take to Twitter to pay tribute to his daughter as the proud father celebrates driving Rangers to another three points, this time in Perth.

It’s not the first time Roofe’s been in trouble involving his daughters and the football field either.

The ex-Anderlecht striker inadvertently started a massive stramash after scoring a worldie against their fierce rivals Standard Liege in the Europa League for Rangers this season.

The striker would explain after the game that signing out the letters A and L after the goal was in honour of his daughters Alarnie and Luna, and not in support of his old club.
