Reported £3.5m Ibrox investment could be Rangers’ best in a generation

As Rangers prepare for the visit of Standard Liege, all eyes will be on a £3.5m-rated Ibrox star who shook the world the last time the two teams met.

Kemar Roofe’s wonder strike from his own half in the 2-0 win earlier in the campaign will live long in the memory and in that moment – where Roofe outmuscled two defenders and skipped past another – the versatile forward announced himself at the club.

Since then Roofe has gone on to impress both domestically and in Europe, with the striker’s last goal a stunning top corner finish against group rivals Benfica.

The forward – as the old cliché goes – doesn’t score bad goals.

Roofe’s wondergoal in Belgium isn’t the only backstory to this match either – the striker also formerly played for Standard’s biggest rivals Anderlecht in the Pro Jupiler League.

There was a little confusion too over the striker’s celebration after scoring against his familiar De Klassieker foes last time out.

The striker sparked something of a tantrum in the Standard party when he celebrated his goal in Belgium by signing the letters A and L to the cameras.

This had the Belgian outfit thinking he was goading them in reference to his time at Anderlecht, something they immediately took umbrage with.

Roofe, 27, would later explain that he did this in homage to his two little girls, Alarnie and Luna, but the damage was already done [Glasgow Live].

Heading into the return Roofe is now beginning to form a terrifying trio up top for Rangers alongside striker Alfredo Morelos and talented wide man Ryan Kent.

The interchanging movement of the three – combined with their potency in front of goal – is a tantalising proposition for Rangers fans this season.

Roofe – who reportedly interested Rangers before moving to Anderlecht last season – has clearly been identified as someone who can be the missing piece in this Rangers side.

Diminutive, strong, hardworking, technically adept, intelligent and with a lethal edge, Roofe offers something different and occupies defenders in a different way to our other forward players.

Tonight is another opportunity for the striker to showcase his own development in Rangers colours and beyond that, to prove that this £3.5m investment could be amongst our best in a generation.
