Why Rangers fans are right to be indulging in meltdown at Celtic Park

Rangers fans everywhere are indulging in the meltdown of their Celtic rivals amid protests aplenty and a run of two wins in twelve games at Parkhead.

The Celtic support is a fractured one as they rail against manager Neil Lennon for getting papped out of Europe and the League Cup with their team now 13 points behind in the title race.

Whilst many Rangers fans have been revelling in the downfall of our rivals there have also been plenty warning the support not to set themselves up for a fail come May.

But there is one reason above all others that Rangers as a support are absolutely within their rights to be indulging in the mayhem at Celtic Park – we’ve earned it.

For the last decade, Rangers have been pretty much the laughing stock of Scottish football, the club’s gigantic fall from grace seemingly never to be reversed.

We had rivalries spring up from everywhere on our journey back to the top, every team in Scotland seemingly desperate to get a kick in whilst we were down.

None more so came than from the boot of our rivals Celtic, who if they weren’t skulling Rangers on our own patch they were trying desperately to convince themselves our grandkids would be Celtic fans.

It was excruciating but we never once let up. We knew that days like this would return. Our rivals genuinely didn’t.

In the minds of Celtic supporters, there was no coming back for Rangers – and that’s why they’ve had such a rude awakening this season.

No matter what happens, we now have a side capable of challenging for this title and it’s no longer a matter of if, it is quite simply a question of when – and this is what hurts them the most.

The crushing realisation that instead of properly enjoying a period of unprecedented success – where they had an unbeaten season and have won the last 11 trophies on our watch – they instead heaped pressure on this season above all others.

Celtic fans are acting spoiled not just because they are, but because amid all of their success this never to be repeated “10IAR” was the only victory which truly mattered to them.

Will I be celebrating prematurely and assuming we’ve got one hand on the trophy because we’re effectively seven points clear? Absolutely not.

But will I be indulging in the manic fall-out, the pathetic reaction, the jarring realisation that we couldn’t be kept down for long as the jelly and ice cream begins to melt in their hands?

Whilst we can’t scream from the rooftops or take over George Square just yet, you better believe I will be.

Celtic might be in freefall but they won’t be sacking manager Neil Lennon just yet – here’s how Rangers fans reacted to the news he’ll be bringing a team to Ibrox in January.
