Why Rangers face delay on Nicolas Raskin transfer as World Cup star returns to roots – Exclusive

Rangers may have to wait a little longer to resolve the future of Nicolas Raskin, with the Belgian star returning to his childhood roots before switching off on vacation.

The 25-year-old midfielder has experienced a breathless week. Last Friday, Raskin and the Belgium national team were knocked out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in a tight quarter-final defeat to Spain in Los Angeles.

Less than 48 hours later, the squad landed back in Brussels on Sunday morning.

While international teammates Youri Tielemans, Thomas Meunier, and Leandro Trossard have all signed major transfers in the two days since, Raskin is intentionally slowing things down.

The former Standard Liege man appears to be prioritising a well-earned holiday first, which is likely to temporarily stall any imminent progression on a move away from Ibrox.

Nicolas Raskin spotted in Waremme

Before heading away for a few days of complete relaxation, Raskin made a special stop in his birthplace of Waremme on Tuesday.

Speaking exclusively to Rangers News, Maxime Hendrick, journalist at Belgian media organisation Sudinfo, revealed details of the midfielder’s heart-warming hometown visit:

“Nicolas was visiting Royal Stade Waremmien FC, the local club where he played for a few months at the age of five, before signing with Standard Liege, before a few days of vacation”, Hendrick told us.

“He has maintained strong ties to Waremme, the city where he was born, and made a point of greeting the children at the junior camp organised by his brother, Maxime.”

The Raskin family’s ties to the local club remain incredibly close, with Nicolas’ father, Thierry, currently coaching the Stade Waremmien first team in the Belgian fifth division.

Why immediate Rangers exit may be on hold

Raskin feels he has achieved everything he can at Ibrox and is open to a new chapter.

Rangers are bracing themselves for concrete bids, especially after holding firm on their £20million-plus valuation by rejecting a £12m-£14m opening offer from newly promoted Premier League side Hull City.

Nicolas Raskin has been linked with a Rangers exit…

However, any immediate movement may be on ice, with the player now officially starting his post-tournament break and no concrete, acceptable bids sitting on the table.

Hendrick confirmed to Rangers News that while the player’s intentions are clear, suitors have yet to make their final moves:

“We understand that he would like to take the next step in his club career this summer, though there are reportedly no concrete offers yet”, he added.

“Standard Liege are keeping a close watch on the situation, having negotiated a 20 per cent sell-on clause.”

Standard Liege will continue to monitor the saga with eager eyes, knowing they are entitled to a substantial portion of any final transfer fee.

However, with Raskin seemingly checking out for his holidays, the high-stakes transfer game at Ibrox is set for a brief pause.
