Derek McInnes has learnt which team he will begin his Rangers managerial career against in the Scottish Premiership next season.

The Scotsman took over from Danny Rohl and was officially announced as the Rangers manager on Wednesday.

He knows that the expectations are high at Ibrox, and the target will be to win the title next season.

What would your concerns be about Derek McInnes replacing Danny Rohl?

Rangers are set to take on Dundee United on 31 July

Rangers will begin their 2026/27 Scottish Premiership season with a game against Dundee United at Tannadice Park on 31 July at 8pm.

This match will also be the season opener and will be played on Friday.

The Light Blues play their first game at Ibrox the following weekend when they play host to Hibs on Sunday, 9 August.

Following that match, the Gers have another one at Ibrox, this time against St Mirren, on 22 August.

Their final game of August is on the 29th when they travel to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen.

The first Old Firm derby of the season in the league will be on Sunday, 20 September, which is a 12pm kick-off at Celtic Park.

What sort of tactical identity will Derek McInnes employ at Ibrox?

McInnes is known to be a pragmatic manager who prioritises organisation over tactical fluidity.

He wants his teams to primarily be hard to beat and expects his attackers to develop patterns on the field of play that they replicate in games.

Under Rohl, Gers fans were used to seeing the attackers interchange positions regularly, which is not expected to happen under McInnes.

What he will do is solidify the defence, something which has been an issue for years, and also make the team more effective from set pieces.

While he has used mid-to-low blocks with his teams, he has usually been managing an underdog side, and he would change his style of play at Rangers as they go into most games expecting to win and will also be dominating possession.
