Rangers have reportedly offered Matt Polster a deal, with Steven Gerrard saying he thinks the American cap can be a first-team player at Ibrox.
In an interview with The Scottish Sun, Gerrard announced the club’s interest in signing the player.
But who is Matt Polster? There is little known about the player, who joined the club on trial a couple of weeks ago.
Widely regarded as a right-sided utility man, what is his natural position? We had a look at his stats on the normally reliable Football Manager franchise to find out.

As we can see on the report, Polster can play in a number of positions. Naturally, he can perform as a defensive midfielder or a right back. He is a ball-winning midfielder and a defensively minded player.
Polster can also play at centre back or in central midfield.

Positively, the in-depth game describes him as a brave and determined leader, with room to improve. Negatively, it describes him as injury prone, a poor decision maker and someone who doesn’t enjoy big games. This can all change of course.
Looking at his stats, he’s an aggressive team player who enjoys getting stuck in. Matt Polster is combative, brave, versatile and still has plenty of room to grow. He has also spent his entire footballing career at Chicago Fire.

And whilst Football Manager is only a game, it can be an accurate way to gain insight into the kind of player we’re signing.
It looks a solid move by Rangers, particularly considering the move involves no transfer fee.
But what would any potential deal for Polster mean for this backup Gers star?
