Which Champions League sides could Rangers face in Europa League?

Rangers stand on the brink of making history tonight if results go their way in Europa League Group G and they top a four-team European group for the first time ever.

The only way to truly guarantee this is to go out and defeat Young Boys on our own patch. Other results could determine our fate even if it ends up a draw.

One of the main reasons why it’s important we get that top spot is that we’ll avoid the best teams dropping down from the Champions League.

Eight sides in total are set to drop down from Europe’s premier club competition but some of them present more intimidating challenges than others.

The four seeded teams dropping down are last year’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax, Portuguese club Benfica, Italian giants Inter Milan and a talented Red Bull Salzburg side.

These are four sides we could potentially face should we end the group stage in second place, alongside the other 12 group winning seeded teams.

The four unseeded teams dropping down are Belgian side Club Brugge, German outfit Bayer Leverkusen, Greek giant Olympiakos, and Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

These are the four Champions League sides we could potentially face if we top the group, alongside the other 12 unseeded group runners up.

As talented as the unseeded sides are, you definitely stand a better chance facing them than potential ties against the likes of Ajax and Inter Milan.

Maybe that’s why we’re planning to go all out for victory against Young Boys.
