Rangers midfielder Steven Davis will not be fit for the club’s crunch Europa League match against Young Boys at Ibrox.
The Northern Irish captain missed the weekend’s Betfred Cup Final defeat against Celtic and his absence was a considered a major blow pre-match.
Similarly, the fact the midfielder has not recovered for this week’s Group defining battle with Young Boys is a major disappointment.
Steven Gerrard made the announcement whilst previewing the match with Young Boys, as assessed the condition of his squad.
“[Steven Davis] won’t be too far away, but he won’t make tomorrow’s game,” Gerrard confirmed [Rangers].
“[Helander] won’t be available for tomorrow. He has had a scan on a foot issue, and we are still waiting for feedback so it has gone off to certain people for expert feedback.
“He will certainly be missing in the short-term but I will know for sure the exact extent of the injury probably by the end of the game tomorrow.
“George Edmundson missed today’s session with an illness but we are hopeful he will be available for tomorrow.”
Davis has played every single minute of Rangers’ group stage matches so far and the 34-year-old veteran even scored in the 2-0 win over Porto.
But now Rangers will have to cope without the little technician in a game which will define whether the club has European football after Christmas or not.

Filip Helander has also played every minute of the Europa League group stage so far and his absence will likely force the return of Nikola Katic.
Rangers aren’t the only side facing a spate of call-offs in this one either – rivals Young Boys could have at least six players out when they face Rangers.
