With the Jermain Defoe deal reportedly all wrapped up, the attention turns to the future of Rangers top scorer.
Prior to the transfer window opening there was much talk of Morelos’ future. The Colombian himself commented on potential transfer bids. So did Steven Gerrard.
But as Defoe arrives, it doesn’t necessarily mean Morelos will follow suit.

They’re very different styles of player and if anything, Jermain Defoe will be a superb influence on the striker. The combative Morelos leads the line superbly and is a brilliant link-up player. He scores goals but he’s also guilty of missing chances.
Defoe is notoriously lethal. He’s built a career on goals from all over the pitch and there’s no doubt he looks after himself. Perhaps he can impart some of that cutting edge and concentration into Alfredo’s game?
I think Morelos will see out the rest of this season – at least. There’s a mixture of hope and expectation there. Because after all, why would Morelos be in a rush to leave?

Rangers have a genuine title race. He’s playing under Steven Gerrard. Morelos can also learn off Defoe about what it takes to cut it in the Premier League – Morelos’ preferred destination when he leaves Ibrox.
The striker is also only 22. He has his entire career ahead of him. And should he stay at Ibrox and fire us to silverware, he’ll be a club icon forever.
I don’t think we signed Defoe to replace Morelos at all. I think we signed him because they could could be perfect together, both on and off the field.
