Philippe Clement has seen his torturous Rangers tenure come to an end after a season that seemed to lurch from one crisis, to the next.
The last thing Patrick Stewart would have wanted to do in the middle of a root to branch review is have to deal with replacing the Rangers manager, however, it was a swift decision to appoint Barry Ferguson and his three amigos.
With Rangers making the announcement on their social media channels, two of the Hall of Fame skipper’s former teammates have taken to Instagram to wish him all the best.
Michael Mols and Jorg Albertz react to Barry Ferguson appointment
Ferguson will be dealing with Rangers squad that is significantly weaker than the one that he led and it is the comments of Michael Mols and Jorg Albertz that serve as a reminder.
“All the best captain Barry,” said Mols, with Albertz going as far as to offer his and Lorenzo Amoruso’s services, “All the best Barry!! If you need anyone for teaching free-kicks let me know, I’ll let Amo know then.”
Sadly, Rangers don’t have a Mols, Albertz or Amoruso to call on with the three treble winners being the perfect example of what is currently missing down the spine of the team.
What has Patrick Stewart said about Clement being sacked?
Speaking to Rangers’ media team about Clement’s sacking, Stewart was quick to remind fans that the priority is sorting out the club’s foundations before a permanent decision is made:
“I want to reiterate, the issues we are facing run deeper than the manager,” reiterated the Gers CEO.
“The ongoing football review seeks to address those issues, and we will continue to implement its findings in the coming weeks and months ahead of appointing a new, permanent manager.
“When I spoke to Rangers TV last week, I was clear that everyone is judged on results, and nobody will get unlimited time in any role at the club.
“Ultimately, the team’s response following their early exit from the Scottish Cup was a cause for deep concern, leading the board to conclude that action had to be taken now.”
Clement ran out of chances, but now, Ferguson has the chance of a lifetime, if only for a few months.
