What has happened with American duo on trial at Ibrox?

A few weeks ago, the story broke that Rangers had offered contracts to the American duo on trial at the club.
Matt Polster, 25, and Andrew Gutman, 22, were a little heard of pair who’d somehow wound up at Auchenhowie. Gerrard went on to say Rangers were having a look at the two Americans.
But since that story broke – first published by American Soccer Now – any movement seems to have dried up.

If the report is to be believed, Rangers offered a deal to both parties and they’re being sized up. Gutman – who recently won the Hermann award for best male College Soccer player – was supposed to be a goer. According to TheAthletic.com, he may well be joining Celtic instead.

The left back was also back in the US to pick up his award.

American cap Polster, who’s contract has run out at Chicago Fire, was said to be considering his options. The right-back/right-midfielder is said to be keen on a move to Europe but is yet to decide whether or not that will be Ibrox.
He has joined the team at their training camp in Tenerife.

Is the ball now in the court of American duo?

It seems now as if the ball is the court of the two players. But it is somewhat frustrating for fans. Especially given it’s transfer window time and Rangers have been making major moves.

With this one, I think time will tell. For me, I think it’d be somewhat of a coup to snap up Gutman. He’s clearly well thought of in the US and Rangers also need a back-up left back. Let’s hope we can beat our rivals to his signature. Polster doesn’t seem a bad player either.
But with Rangers being so tight-lipped over transfers under Gerrard, we’ll need to wait and see if the American duo join the ranks at Ibrox.
