Rangers target Andrew Gutman wins prestigious MAC Hermann trophy

Potential Rangers signing Andrew Gutman has had his talents recognised by being awarded the MAC Hermann trophy yesterday.
The award is given to the best player in American College soccer by the Missouri Athletics Club each year. There is an award for both the best male and female player.
It is a very prestigious award and Gutman was handed it after leading his side, the Indiana Hoosiers, to two Big Ten Championships and also the College Cup. Naturally a left back, Gutman scored eleven goals and hit nine assists in a stunning season.
Gutman, who has been reportedly offered a deal by Rangers, said: “To Indiana University, thank you for allowing me to achieve my goals, academically and athletically”.

Gutman also placed in the First Team All-Big Ten, received the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award and was also recognised as an All-American this season. It’s fair to say he’s highly thought of at that level and could have a bright future.

Should we be getting excited? Maybe. If he actually signs for the club, that is.
American footballing legends Brad Friedel, Claudio Reyna and Alexi Lalas are all former MAC Hermann trophy winners. Reyna of course played for Rangers between 1999 and 2001. Could that be a good omen?
Whatever happens, it’s great to see that Rangers have their finger on the pulse with the goings on in American football. Sorry, soccer.
