Aberdeen legend Willie Miller has described finishing behind Rangers and Celtic as “horrible and depressing”. The Dons currently sit third in the table.
He has also suggested McInnes must win a cup to appease the expectant Dons fans and cement himself in their history.
Rangers stand between Aberdeen and a Scottish Cup semi final trip to Hampden. Can they pile on the misery this afternoon?

“It’s horrible and depressing to think about that,” said Willie Miller to The Scottish Sun, referring to finishing behind the Old Firm. “So I can understand where Derek is right now.”
“But trophies are extremely important to Aberdeen, especially the Scottish Cup.
“When you win a trophy it guarantees you your place in the club’s history.
“The League Cup is good but the Scottish Cup is the one supporters want most. And if Derek could lift it, he’ll be right up there with the best Aberdeen managers.”
Miller should know – he won 12 trophies as a player with the Dons but couldn’t knock Rangers dominance in the 90s as the club’s manager. In 2019, the Gers will be hoping to spoil Aberdeen and McInnes plans in what promises to be a fiery battle at Pittodrie.

Rangers too are chomping at the bit to close the gap against Celtic. If Willie Miller describes it as depressing for Aberdeen, it’s been arguably more so for Rangers fans.
Aberdeen have finished above Rangers for the two years since the Ibrox club have been back in the top league. However, this season Steven Gerrard looks to have finally overtaken our North East rivals.
He can cement that by guiding Rangers to a victory in this crunch Scottish Cup tie. Read our predicted Rangers XI for the match HERE.
