Villarreal have never won on Scottish soil

Rangers welcome Villarreal in the penultimate Europa League Group Stage game, with both teams looking for a win to aid their qualification efforts.

It’s incredibly tight in Group G. Only two points separates top from bottom in the group. There’s everything to play for – and also everything to lose.

But there’s one stat that should give Rangers fans real optimism going into this match. Villarreal have never won on Scottish soil.

They’ve drawn twice (Celtic 04 & Rangers 06) and been beaten once (Celtic 08).

With the rain and wind whipping around Glasgow tonight, don’t expect that to change either.

Gerrard clear Rangers must get something from Villarreal game

Steven Gerrard has been absolutely clear to his Rangers side that they must get something in this match.

He said it is “critical” that the team don’t lose the game. That doesn’t mean he thinks we don’t have a chance of taking all three points.

Ibrox is a sell-out and there’s a real buzz of excitement in the city as the two sides prepare to do battle.

This could be the game that swings the group for either side. Rangers need three points to keep qualification in their own hands, and Villarreal can qualify with a win.

Whatever happens, it’s certainly not going to be dull in Govan tonight.
