Two Rangers stars command megabucks interest but only one is priceless

As one Rangers player was forced to sit out amid megabucks interest in his services, another was rising to the challenge despite reports linking him with a move away.

Gers striker Alfredo Morelos has not been at the races since Lille tried to tempt Rangers with reported bids of over £16m for his services and as a result, Steven Gerrard has moved him into the background at Ibrox.

Contrast that with Rangers winger Ryan Kent who, amid interest from Premier League new-boys Leeds United, is proving every week that there’s only one place he wants to be this season.

The Gers winger was once again instrumental as Rangers ran out 2-0 winners over Kilmarnock, netting the side’s second and being a constant threat on the ball.

Kent is so quick, so versatile and so creative and for anyone doubting that he’s about to take his game to the next level this season they need only take heed of his recent performances.

Now 23, there’s added pressure on Kent to provide numbers at the top end of the pitch and it’s a responsibility he appears to be relishing in the early part of the season.

There’s been a relatively dramatic step up in terms of directness from the tricky winger who now realises that if he’s to achieve at the club big performances must become a weekly thing.

Steven Gerrard admitted the player is “progressing very quickly” as he addressed Leeds United’s interest in the player ahead of the Killie game.

The fact the Elland Road are reportedly set to bid £14m for the player’s services is also a testament to the suggestion that they also believe that.

Whilst Morelos’ exit would undoubtedly be a blow, the ongoing distraction surrounding the player presents an argument that both parties may be better off going in different directions.

The Ibrox side has also invested a reported £6m on Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten with the promise of Morelos millions surely opening the door to signing another forward if he does leave.

But Ryan Kent is already proving that he is an integral part of Rangers’ league campaign and that he’s taking his game to the next level this season.

Should Rangers receive a bid they can’t refuse for Kent – and despite Morelos’ 30 goals last season – there’s only one of the two players the Gers would seriously struggle to replace.
