As St Johnstone won the Betfred Cup over the weekend, it gave Rangers’ rivals Celtic a modicum of happiness in a season devoid of it.

Rangers are set to secure 55 any moment now with the potential to win their first title in a decade at Celtic Park a prospect which will have many rival fans genuinely terrified.

Not only would it be a perfectly fitting end to their disastrous 10IAR campaign – you know, the Holy Grail as they called it – and also for the start of a period of Rangers dominance.

But as some Celtic fans seek a comfort blanket for the death of their domestic dynasty and Rangers’ imminent 55th gong, they’ve taken aim at Steven Gerrard’s two trophyless seasons.

Whilst the Ibrox gaffer will be immensely disappointed that the club didn’t lift silverware in his first two campaigns, the arrival of a first league trophy in a decade certainly won’t have too many Rangers fans cut up about it.

But for some Celtic fans, Callum Davidson’s League Cup win with St Johnstone is somehow evidence that he is a better manager than Steven Gerrard.

How delicious is that? These guys haven’t even accepted the fact that we’re about to win this yet, it’s like the denial stage of grieving.

Rangers are well on their way to becoming league champions and can even lift the trophy this weekend if circumstances are to go their way.
