Todd Cantwell posts in response to Rangers hook controversy

The tabloids must’ve been fuming this week with the way that both Todd Cantwell and Philippe Clwment reacted to the way that the Rangers playmaker was substituted against Aris Limassol.

There were no toys thrown out the pram, no rants by the Gers manager, no leaks to the press – everything was kept as it should be, in house.

Less than a few days was all it took for Todd Cantwell to go from the humiliation of being taken off after just half an hour to Rangers main man once again, and Clement’s number 13 looks determined to return to his best.

Todd Cantwell gets his head down to make Rangers impact

There might not have been any social media posts or cryptic messages last week from Todd Cantwell, however, the Rangers midfielder took to Instagram this week with something of a motivational speech.

Not anything of his own creation but a famous one by Denzel Washington made in 2017 in which he urges the next generation to do what needs to be done to be a success:

“Keep working. Keep striving, never give up.

“Fall down seven times, get up eight.

“Ease is a greater threat to progress to hardship.

“Ease is a greater threat to progress to hardship.

“So, keep moving, keep growing, keep learning.

“See you at work.”

The Training Day actor makes a great point and it is one that has shown a maturity in Cantwell that Rangers could well be set to benefit from.

Philippe Clement has managed the situation perfectly in that he has spoken to the player, got to know him better and then made him feel valued again by picking him in Rangers central attacking midfield role.

What it has also shown is that Todd Cantwell has accepted that he wasn’t performing as required for Rangers and that he had to do better.

He kept working, kept moving, kept growing and kept learning.

Now all he needs to do, is do it consistently.
