As the dust settles on a great result for Rangers, the attention will shift back to a title challenge.
The league isn’t won in December.
Rangers will now be under pressure to deliver performances AND points after a few weeks off. After a superb European run and managing to stay in touch domestically, the situation remains the same.
Celtic can go three points clear if they win their game in hand and have one of three domestic trophies this season. They are still fighting for three trebles and we are the only team capable of stopping them. In this December run the lack of numbers in our squad has been evident.
Four players needed?
We need quality and for me that concerns four key areas. Starting from the back we need a left back for cover. Too often we’ve been left short when Barisic is out.
Halliday was superb today but such is his versatility he’s only been asked to deputise there. We need someone else too.
In midfield wee need a lock-picking playmaker. All fingers point to Steven Davis, and if reports are to be believed, he’s our man.
Next, I believe we need another dribbling, creative player who’ll add goals. This I think was supposed to be Grezda but he’s struggled to settle. Let’s hope he has a big second half of the season, but I’d still like to see a quality creative midfielder who’ll score, assist and excite.
And then finally, we need another striker. We can’t keep relying on Alfredo. Will it be Dominic Solanke? Will it be Tom Eaves?
I don’t know, but that’s a priority position.
In my mind, if we sign players in these four positions, there will be a title challenge.
