Three Rangers loanees were affected after an SPFL League One clash between Clyde and East Fife at Broadwood on Tuesday night was called off just minutes before kick-off due to a positive Covid test in the home camp.

Jack Thomson and Zac Butterworth had been named on the bench for Clyde while Cole McKinnon was in East Fife’s starting XI.

All appeared to be normal until moments before the scheduled 7pm start, as the players gathered in the tunnel on time.

However, kick-off was pushed back until 7.15pm and that time came and went before the Bully Wee confirmed at 7.30pm that the game had been postponed.

At 8:16pm, Clyde issued the following statement [Clydefc.co.uk]:

“The club can confirm that, following a positive Covid-19 test in the squad tonight, a review was conducted by the Joint Response Group, who subsequently confirmed that tonight’s Clyde v East Fife match could go ahead.”

“However, East Fife took the decision not to fulfil the fixture, leaving the referee with no option but to postpone the match.”

The identity of the player who tested positive was not revealed.

The postponement could cause some issues regarding the completion of the SPFL League One season, as all clubs agreed that either they would make it through all of their post-split fixtures by 6th May or final standings would be determined on a points-per-game basis.

Both Clyde and East Fife still have three fixtures to play.

Rangers loanee Thomson has made 12 appearances for Clyde since joining in January, while Butterworth has featured three times and McKinnon has turned out seven times for the Fifers.

In other news, Rangers will reportedly soon announce a major new partnership as changes are made at Ibrox.
