Three Championship clubs are amongst the teams chasing in-form ex Rangers attacker Josh Windass, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Windass divided the fan base during his time at Ibrox, with some supporters pointing to his decent return of 19 goals and 13 assists in 73 appearances as evidence that he was a good asset and others criticising his attitude and performances in big matches.

After two years at Ibrox, Windass left in the summer of 2018, joining Wigan Athletic for £2.5m [Scottish Sun].

He moved on to Sheffield Wednesday last summer and has had a decent first full season at Hillsborough, scoring ten goals and notching six assists from 42 appearances, with two of his goals coming in his last two Championship outings.

The Owls are in grave danger of being relegated, though, and Windass may switch clubs again in the summer.

Pete O’Rourke claims that Cardiff City, Middlesbrough and Stoke City are all tracking the former Ger.

Cardiff and Middlesbrough both look set to finish comfortably inside the top half of the English second tier, with Stoke a little further back in 13th.

No matter what some Bears may think of Windass, Rangers received more money from his sale than they have from that of any other player since his departure in 2018 and it’s clear that he continues to be a desirable forward.

The 27-year-old has played in the lower divisions of the EFL before but is unlikely to want to drop down to League One if there’s an opportunity to remain in the Championship and it looks as though he may have his pick of a few good clubs come the summer.

In other news, a rapid reported Rangers target is reportedly close to agreeing a pre-contract with a Championship side.
