It’s not like Rangers fans expect much from the BBC Scotland coverage of matches at Ibrox, but their possession statistics from the 2-0 win over Stranraer have been turning heads.
BBC Scotland have taken the heroically stoic decision to boycott coverage of Rangers matches at Ibrox as a show of solidarity with a quarrelsome journalist who had his press-rights revoked due to his suspicious motives.
Rangers shareholders Club 1872 have also previously described the broadcaster as being “economical with the truth” [Club 1872] over a range of issues.

As a result of the entire farce, their coverage of the Ibrox side is generally incredibly warped.
That begins at the fictitious possession stats against Stranraer and stretches to their Chief Sportswriter accusing Rangers fans of lying about a potential crush at Rugby Park on the first weekend of the league season.
How wonderfully brave indeed.
After last night’s match, the National Broadcaster appeared to cock-up the statistics concerning Rangers’ Scottish Cup victory.
Incredibly, they had Rangers having 41% possession and Stranraer receiving 59%.
Rangers fans were quick to clock on to the error:

In fairness, the official statistics for the match don’t appear to be posted anywhere but they certainly weren’t in favour of the Dumfriesshire Blues.
This isn’t the first time there’s been a lackadaisical approach to reporting concerning Rangers from the BBC.
There have been numerous incidences of inappropriate and unacceptable coverage and for many Ibrox fans, this is just another example of the contemptuousness for which the organisation holds Rangers.
There’s also an argument here that some of the club’s supporters might be being a tad pedantic given the Ibrox side’s match with Stranraer was given a half-hour highlights slot by BBC Scotland.

Granted, it was the only Friday game, but whoever cut the match deserves a pay rise for somehow getting close to 20 minutes of match footage into the highlights show.
The 2-0 win over Stranraer was a relatively drab affair with young Nathan Patterson stealing the show on his debut to help Rangers through to the next round of the Scottish Cup.
