These Rangers fans cringe at “tragic” song “copied” by Celtic fans

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Celtic fans have been lavishing their Rangers counterparts with praise over the last few months.

They’ve already been singing along to Welcome to the Party, the anthem of travelling Rangers fans in Europe this season, and our Old Firm rivals have outdone themselves again.

This time, Celtic fans on Twitter have adopted ABBA’s Gimme, Gimme, Gimme for Oliver Ntcham, weeks after Rangers supporters did so for Filip Helander. Cringe.

The most embarrassing part of this isn’t the fact that Celtic fans enjoyed Rangers supporters singing it that much they had to imitate it.

In the world of football, patter really is patter and all chants are fair game, within the realms of decency.

But it’s the fact that the Rangers chant for Helander is so specific, with the big defender himself being Swedish and the chant being so fresh.

Rangers fans have been having their say on Celtic fans trying to claim the song.

However – to add an extra dimension to this entire thing – Celtic fans claim that they have always chanted the song about Ntcham.

But whilst it’s true there are sporadic, minimal tweets from anywhere up to 2017 attaching the midfielder to the song, it’s also clear that it’s never, ever caught on.

It leaves you wondering why it’s started to now…
