The proposed Trophy Day celebrations of Rangers fans appear to have upset plenty in Scotland before a flare has even been lit.

But the blue touch paper certainly has as Gers fans everywhere gear up for the mother of all parties ten years in the making this weekend.

Yes, the Covid-19 pandemic means that supporters won’t be able to indulge their celebrations the way they would’ve hoped, but they’ll certainly make the most of it.

It’s also been continuously reiterated that transmission of the virus outdoors is minimal whilst the country prepares to open up further this coming Monday.

Gers fans risked the ire of government officials after celebrating back in March, the club’s supporters breaking a national lockdown to triumphantly cheer on their team.

Despite all the criticisms, it was later confirmed the celebrations had little impact on the Covid-19 landscape in the country and yet people are once again trying to dig the club.

The police have reminded supporters of the six people from six households rule [Scottish Sun] whilst the Daily Record are claiming the Scottish Government want Rangers to tell their fans to ignore plans for a march into George Square.

Much of the criticism isn’t washing with Rangers fans – the usual suspects have never quite had the Gers’ best interests at heart in the past so it’s unlikely fans will believe they do this time around.

Other groups and marches have been allowed to perform or hold demonstrations during the pandemic – with little to no official condemnation – and there’s a feeling that this weekend is being misrepresented by plenty online and in the press.

Rangers fans want to celebrate being crowned Champions, many would do well to remember that, but maybe that’s the problem.

There have been some decidedly salty meltdowns regarding any proposed outdoor gatherings this weekend and here’s a selection of some of the best:

Rangers fans are getting excited ahead of the weekend and this ongoing conflict in the news and online is doing little to discourage them.

Gers fans themselves railed against the suggestion that the Ibrox club should be held responsible ahead of the weekend as per the Daily Record’s report.
