According to the Daily Record, the Scottish Government are going to appeal to Rangers to “nip” the plans of fans for a Trophy Day party in the bud.

The newspaper is at continuing odds with the Ibrox side, and their insider report claims that the “Holyrood top brass” are going to ask Rangers to stop fans gathering.

The Record report comes after the Union Bears unveiled plans for a march from the vicinity of Ibrox Stadium right into George Square this Saturday afternoon.

This appeal would then be followed by the Police Scotland superintendent reminding supporters of the legal responsibilities and rules regarding meeting up outside [Scottish Sun].

As it stands only six people from six households can meet up in Scotland.

It’s also important to note that as things stand society is opening back up after the pandemic and the general public are no longer required to wait at home.

Not that anything that happens in the next few days is likely to prevent thousands of fans from gathering for the title celebrations – this is just a fact and let’s not kid ourselves on.

Rangers fans have waited a decade to celebrate this title and could go the season unbeaten after years of being punched and kicked on the way up the pyramid.

Not only that, but we’ve already seen George Square occupied by ” a sea” of protesters this week without a sound from the newspapers or the government.

Rangers fans have criticised the coverage of the club – especially when compared to that of other groups – and it’s clear all this coverage is doing is mixing the pot:

It’s important to also remember that Rangers can do nothing to prevent gatherings up and down the country and public order is the sole responsibility of the government.

The sensible approach would be facilitate these celebrations safely and in the public interest but we’re already seeing friction in both a salty press and with government institutions.
