Rangers thought that they hit rock bottom after suffering defeat to Queen’s Park but it took defeat to St Mirren for Philippe Clement to lose his job.
Barry Ferguson was a surprise announcement as Rangers manager alongside his coaching team that has made hundreds of appearances for the club.
Patrick Stewart confirmed that it was just an interim arrangement, although comments made by Nils Koppen should give Ferguson hope of a permanent role Rangers.

How Barry Ferguson could earn permanent Rangers role
It’s not the first time that the Hall of Fame legend has had a chance to work at the club he loves after an infamous meeting with Pedro Caixinha.
Now though, he has a three-month interview where he will look to get a tune out of a bruised and battered Rangers squad.
Kevin Thomson has already been brought back to the academy, could Ferguson be next?
“What we also don’t have to forget is that we’re a Scottish club,” said Koppen about rebuilding Rangers from top to bottom.
“We have to educate players not only for our first-team but also in general for the Scottish game.
“It’s something that we have to pay more attention on. That the output also, if they cannot make it up here as a pro then they will be able to be a professional football player at the Scottish highest level.
“We really have to improve that.
“One of the thing things that I’m looking at is maybe adding in some ex-professional Rangers players to increase that level of DNA, that level of detail.
“Players that were in this building, have been a part of it and know what it’s about.
“That’s something that’s going to be key in the years to come.”
It appears that this has been the approach taking to get the first-team back on track in the short-term too.
What sort of full-time role could Ferguson aspire to?
To land the top spot, Ferguson would probably have to go unbeaten domestically and have the sort of run in the Europa League that his former midfield partner Giovanni van Bronckhorst did.
There is more to it than just results though.
If Ferguson can bring about a change of mentality, a change of intensity and unite the fans and the players, there should be a place for him on the next manager’s coaching team.
Rangers is a unique club with standards that a lot of players and coaches struggle to adapt to, having someone like Ferguson as part of any future set-up makes sense – if he does well in the next three months.
After all, he knows exactly what it takes to win at places like Parkhead, Pittodrie, Tynecastle and, hopefully, Rugby Park.
