Rangers bound Motherwell star Jake Hastie has just made the biggest move of his career to date, with Gers fans already welcoming the 20-year-old to Ibrox.
But that didn’t stop bitter Motherwell fans unveiling a banner and also chanting about the youngster.
Let’s be honest, had Hastie agreed to move down south or to any other club, things probably wouldn’t have been so bitter. But, to his credit, Motherwell fan and popular pundit Tam Cowan has criticised his own side’s fans’ behaviour.
“I thought the chants aimed at a 19-year-old kid wearing a Motherwell shirt were totally out of order,” writes Tam Cowan in a Scottish Sun column.
“It’s the oldest cliche in the book, but how many of the Well fans giving it “Jake Hastie, you’re a w*****r!” would refuse a job switch that guaranteed at least three times your previous salary?”
At least someone gets it. The youngster’s contract was running down and Rangers are an immensely appealing prospect to a young player.
He gets a bigger salary, the chance to play at the country’s biggest club and it’s only 20 minutes down the road. On paper, it’s a no-brainer. He’s gone from Alloa to Ibrox in a season.
But as Motherwell fans come to terms with the player joining Steven Gerrard’s team, there could be more bad news to come.
