Talksport host questions Rangers boss logic after contract claim

This week has been a stressful one for Rangers fans as names like Frank Lampard and Scott Parker saw their odds shorten in the race to be next manager.

Thankfully, both have been ruled out as being contenders by those in the know and the out of work pair will have to look elsewhere for their next project.

According to Talksport’s Sam Matterface though, Rangers should be looking at Frank Lampard and Scott Parker rather than manager’s like Philippe Clement.

Rangers right to ignore Frank Lampard and Scott Parker

The debate came from the report that Rangers are said to have offered Philippe Clement a four-year contract to replace Michael Beale, but Matterface can’t understand why fans would prefer him over the former Premier League pair:

“I’m more interested in why the Rangers fans feel the way they do and why they seemingly would prefer someone who didn’t get Monaco into the Champions League, Europa League or even the Conference League.

“Than they would to have someone who got into the Champions League and saved Everton from relegation from the biggest league in the world.

“Why they wouldn’t want someone, for example, like Scott Parker who did a very good job getting Fulham promoted to the Premier League?”

For a start, other than Parker getting Fulham out of the Championship, neither have particularly impressive managerial CVs.

Matterface mentions Frank Lampard getting Chelsea into the top four but neglects to mention the following season, as he does with Scott Parker taking Fulham straight back down.

Rangers need an experienced manager with a proven style of play and neither Frank Lampard or Scott Parker can tick those boxes.

Big names they might be, suitable options to replace Michael Beale they aren’t.

Managing in the Premier League, on it’s own, isn’t even close to being a consideration for the Rangers job.
