Rangers’ busy transfer window hasn’t only caught the eye of the club’s supporters, but also of our rivals.
Eight players have joined the ranks at Ibrox with every one of them adding something new to the team. It’s been a productive window and it might still have some more to go.
But that “where are they getting the money from?” riposte from our rivals is as desperate as it is ludicrous.
For all the players Rangers have signed this summer, the club has only spent £4m. That’s a reported £700k for George Edmundson, £300k for Joe Aribo and £3m for Filip Helander.
The rest joined through either free transfers or loans.
Of course, you also need to incorporate player’s wages, but Rangers will have a wage structure which works in tandem with the transfer budget.
The notion that this is an excessive amount of money for a club which has just sold close to 46,000 season tickets is fantastical.
Especially when you consider last season’s European run, Dave King’s comments on reinvesting season ticket money into the playing squad [Rangers.co.uk] and the club’s determination to challenge for the title.
Rangers have gone into this transfer window and by and large, achieved their targets.
Perhaps Mexer aside, and potentially Ryan Kent, Steven Gerrard has got the men he wanted through the door.
And going by how constructively we’ve used our budget, there might still be more to come.
