Summer Rangers signing Cedric Itten will not be going to Euro 2020 with Switzerland after he wasn’t named in the country’s preliminary 29-man squad for the tournament.
Manager Vladimir Petković has not included the £2.5m Ibrox signing in his squad despite using him sparingly on international duty across the season.

Switzerland do have a range of attacking options and competition is fierce with Haris Seferovic (Benfica), Admir Mehmedi (Wolfsburg), Breel Embolo (Borussia Monchengladbach), Mario Gavranovic (Dinamo Zagreb) and Ruben Vargas (Augsburg) all included.

Cedric Itten has contributed to Rangers’ title success this season and fans will remember a late goal against Motherwell in November which helped the club bounce back from Betfred Cup defeat to St Mirren.
But over the piece the forward has struggled to nail down game time at Ibrox and made only nine starts all season despite playing in 38 games.
Itten, 24, is still very much a work in progress and moved to Scotland at a difficult time during the pandemic with his six goals a stable return but more will be expected in the future.
Cedric’s lack of starts at Ibrox this season has hurt him in this regard as Petkovic opens up on the player being left out of Switzerland’s Euros squad and opts for younger options.

“I already know Cedric Itten, but unfortunately for him, he didn’t play that much for Rangers this season,” said Petkovic [Daily Record].
“Andi Zeqiri did well for his team and the same goes for Dan Ndoye. I don’t know them well so this is a chance for me to get to work with them.
“I wanted to give new players the chance to experience tournament football.
“I gave Denis Zakari and Nico Elvedi a similar chance before the Euro 2016 tournament and both are now established in my squad. So young players are the future.”

If it’s any consolation at all for Rangers fans eager to see the player in the summer, £5m Celtic flop Albian Ajeti has also been excluded from the squad for the summer’s tournament.
One player who will be making the Euros this summer has been rewarded for his fine form and will line up alongside teammates from the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
