Stubborn Rangers transfer stance justified by reported £16m English move

After Rangers knocked back a £16m offer for Alfredo Morelos from Lille [Daily Mail], there have been a spate of reports in South America claiming a deal could be done for £18m (€20m).

But there’s a transfer which has happened down south which suggests Rangers would absolutely not be amiss to demand the £20m the club reportedly want for the Colombian.

One-time Rangers target Karlan Grant is a target of Premier League newboys West Brom from Huddersfield Town for a reported £16m [Rob Dorsett].

This is a player who spent six months in the English Premier League before being relegated with the Terriers the season before last.

The striker then led the line for the Championship side as his impressive 19 goals helped them to a disappointing 10th placed finish.

At 22 Grant still has room to grow and has scored at Premier League level, but to suggest he’s at the same level of Alfredo Morelos is an insult to the Colombian international.

Morelos has scored for his country. The 24-year-old forward has been officially recognised as holding the record for the most European goals scored before Christmas.

This is a striker who has scored 79 goals in just over three years at Rangers and who is commanding interest from across Europe, let alone the UK.

Regardless of the fact that Alfredo Morelos plays in Scotland, if someone in the English second tier can command a fee of £16m, then you’ll forgive Rangers for holding out for £20m.
