Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has dismissed any official Premier League interest in midfielder Glen Kamara but admits he wouldn’t be surprised if that was to change.
The Finnish international has proved to be a £50k bargain for Rangers and has cemented himself in the first XI at Ibrox.
Positive Rangers performances coupled with a stand-out role in Finland’s Euro 2020 qualification success have meant a strong start to the season from Kamara.
It’s led the Arsenal Academy graduate to be linked with a range of Premier League clubs, with up to four sides reportedly monitoring the player [Daily Mail].
Whilst Steven Gerrard admits that Rangers have an “outstanding” player in Kamara, he revealed that there’s been nothing official from down south or from across Europe.
“We haven’t heard of any interest down south, we’ve read tons about it though,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“But I wouldn’t be surprised if there was interest in Glen Kamara because he’s an outstanding footballer.
“He’s been outstanding since he walked in the door. Sometimes I still have to pinch myself for how we got him and what we got him for.
“Glen is doing fine. He got a real strong contract when he came here from Dundee.
“He’s in good form and playing well. The message for Glen and the other players is we always reward our players for consistent performances over a long period of time. Glen will be treated no different.
“All he needs to worry about is bringing success back to the club and I’m sure he will be well looked after.”
Such has been Kamara’s form reports have suggested that the player could even move on for £8m [Herald] when he does eventually leave Ibrox.
But Gerrard’s comments on rewarding the player suggest the club have no plans to sell Kamara just yet.
