Steven Gerrard showed distrust in Rangers signing against Hearts

Steven Gerrard mixed things up for Rangers against Hearts, partly out of choice and partly because his hand was forced.
There were four personnel changes and a tweak to the formation with Scott Arfield moving further upfield.

Those alterations worked a treat.
The Gers were on the front foot from the off and ran out comfortable winners.
Hearts didn’t offer much, but nonetheless, it was a dominant display.

The changes suggested a deep lack of trust in a player Gerrard brought to the club during the summer, though.
When he decided to drop or rest Daniel Candeias, who is, of course, an out-and-out winger, his natural replacement would have been Eros Grezda.

He’s comfortable on the right flank. In fact, it was from that side that he played 90 minutes, scored twice and registered an assist against Motherwell way back in November.

The 23-year-old has had his injury problems, but he’s fully fit now. He proved that on international duty with Albania last week, clocking 30 minutes against Turkey and 70 against Andorra.

Yet, Gerrard still decided to play Arfield in a different role, rather than hand Grezda a start.
It’s a not a great sign for the ex-Osijek player who cost the club a reported £2 million.
He was afforded a 20-minute cameo at the end, during which he saw a header crash off the post.
However, he’s down the pecking order right now and with time running out, it’s looking less and less likely he’ll make his mark at Ibrox this season.
