Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed that the Ibrox club are interested in offering summer signing Leon Balogun a new contract but claims there is no rush.
The Ibrox gaffer was speaking to the press ahead of the club’s clash with Aberdeen at Pittodrie and opened up on the contract situation surrounding several players.
The Gers have a few big names entering the final six months of their deals and Balogun is amongst them having signed a one-year contract in the summer.
Nigerian international Balogun, 32, has slotted in very well at Ibrox and ever since his debut match against Aberdeen has staked a strong claim for a starting berth.
The Gers defence has been the foundation of a strong first half of the season and Gerrard suggested Balogun has done enough to warrant a new deal.
🎙️ SG: All contract chat will remain private between players and the club once they get up and running. At the right time, we will sit down with Allan McGregor and see what he wants to do in terms of his own future. Leon Balogun is also someone we want to keep hold off.

“All contract chat will remain private between players and the club once they get up and running,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“At the right time, we will sit down with Allan McGregor and see what he wants to do in terms of his own future.
“Leon Balogun is also someone we want to keep hold of.”
Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell would expand on Gerrard’s comments, which revealed Balogun also wants to commit his future to Rangers.
“He’s performing ever so well,” said Gerrard [Campbell].
“He signed a contract with the option of an extension and we want him to be here beyond this season. There’s no rush. He’s enjoying it and he’s made the squad stronger.”
Balogun joined Rangers after his contract expired at Premier League Brighton in the summer following a spell with Wigan in the Championship.
The big defender impressed supporters with his post-match comments in the aftermath of the 1-0 over Celtic at Ibrox last weekend.
