Rangers fans have heaped praise on Leon Balogun for his brilliant RangersTV interview following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Celtic.

Balogun was a relative surprise inclusion in the Gers starting XI as he made his Old Firm debut ahead of the benched Filip Helander.

However, after settling down following Celtic’s strong start to the contest, he was extremely solid.

The Nigeria international’s pace was key to thwarting Celtic’s attempts to get in behind the Gers defence and he made a crucial block from an Odsonne Edouard effort just before the hour mark.

His excellent performance was then followed up by an equally impressive post-match interview.

‘I think it’s fair to say there was a bit of excitement in the dressing room afterwards,” he began [RangersTV]. Great win. It wasn’t easy. We struggled in the first half and even got lucky a little bit. I think we worked hard to maybe deserve that bit of match luck that we had in the first half.”

“It was much better in the second half and then obviously to score and bring that over the line, it’s an amazing feeling. It’s my first Old Firm and the fans have been missing but I think we will all be very happy and united even though we cannot celebrate together.”

The eloquent centre-back then went on to discuss the mental toughness of the squad, winning ugly and staying grounded in the title race, before speaking very respectfully about Ibrox Disaster on the 50th anniversary of the tragedy.

Supporters were quick to praise Balogun, who has now made 19 Rangers appearances since joining on a free transfer in the summer, beneath the video.

Here’s a selection of reactions:

Balogun’s teammate Alfredo Morelos very rarely gives interviews, but the Colombia international received plenty of attention of his own with a triumphant Instagram post following Saturday’s victory.
