As Rangers continue to impress this season (Old Firm derby aside) there’s been a roaming, energetic, creative presence right at the centre of it.
Steven Davis might be 34, but he is arguably playing some of the best football of his career at Ibrox right now.
A composed, sweeping presence at the centre of that midfield, Davis has looked a class apart pretty much all season.
No matter where the midfielder has played his presence and class in midfield has shone through.
What a fantastic sight it is to see Davis so sharp and so central at Ibrox – especially considering a difficult first few months of 2019 for the former Southampton midfielder.
Initially joining on loan from the Saints in January, the midfielder signed a one-year deal at the end of last season after coming into his own in the final few matches of 2018/19.
Part of Davis’ rise at the end of last season might’ve been managing to get that extra yard of fitness and knowing full well that he had to win that contract with his boyhood heroes.
Davis has been a determined, committed and most of all quality option for Rangers in the opening period of this season.
This was summed up none more so than by that unbelievable double goal-line clearance in the 4-0 win against St. Johnstone.
The Northern Irishman and former Ibrox captain knows what it takes to win silverware in Scotland and will be central to everything we achieve under Steven Gerrard.
And if he keeps impressing like this then there’s no doubt he’ll also win himself the chance to play at Ibrox for another year come May.
