Rangers remain the last team to beat PSV Eindhoven at home after the Dutch side held Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League Last 16.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst famously steered Rangers to a 1-0 victory in the Phillips Stadion back in 2022 and since then no side has overcome the Eredivisie leaders on home soil.

Not even Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, who were held to a 1-1 draw in Eindhoven with the Champions League clash very finely balanced ahead of the return in Germany.

Former Rangers star Malik Tillman started the clash in the Netherlands, with Donyell Malen netting a stunner on his return to PSV before Luuk de Jong scored a penalty to rescue a draw.

Rangers PSV record stands after Dortmund visit

It’s a testament to the management of Giovanni van Bronckhorst that his Rangers’ squad are the last team to beat what is a talented PSV Eindhoven at home.

Rangers had held the Dutch side 2-2 at Ibrox before Antonio Colak scored a historic goal to send the Ibrox side back to the Champions League for the first time in 12 years.

Whilst that group stage campaign was a disaster, Rangers once again faced this very PSV Eindhoven side in Champions League qualifying this season.

Another 2-2 draw at Ibrox gave rise to a sense of deja-vu before PSV flexed their superior quality in a 5-1 demolition in the Netherlands.

Coming out of a Champions League group with Arsenal, RC Lens, and Sevilla, it’s a result which doesn’t look as grim on reflection as a new-look Rangers team faced a PSV outfit entering its prime.

The draw with Borussia Dortmund also means that PSV Eindhoven are very much in with a shout of the Champions League quarters when the two teams meet again in a fortnight.

Malik Tillman gets Champions League validation

On an eventful night for USA international Malik Tillman, the 21-year-old attacker earned some Champions League validation for moving to PSV over Rangers this summer.

The attacking midfielder had played a crucial role in guiding Rangers to the Champions League last season but was on the opposite team in qualifying this time around.

Heavily involved in the PSV Eindhoven draw with Borussia Dortmund, Malik Tillman missed two big first-half opportunities and won the penalty which Luuk de Jong duly dispatched.

With Rangers having their initial loan option controversially side-stepped in the summer, the kid is proving himself every inch the £13m player Bayern Munich rate him as.
