Should Rangers be tempted by Atletico Madrid interest in Alfredo Morelos?

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is being linked with Atletico Madrid [Diario AS] with reports in Spain suggesting Diego Simeone’s side could launch a £10-15m bid.

The Colombian forward has hit 29 goals this season with his 14 strikes in the Europa League likely to be a source of motivation for any interest from clubs across Europe.

But since the turn of 2020, Alfredo Morelos has been a shadow of the striker who lit up Scotland in the first half of the season.

Morelos has hit one goal since football restarted in late January and has cut a laboured, dejected figure at the top of the Rangers attack.

The striker also reported back late from a trip to Colombia and was disciplined by the club as a result.

There has also been a multitude of off-field issues, and whilst much of it has stemmed from a disgraceful, vitriolic media campaign against the forward, they’re having an impact.

There’s no doubt that the wee man is a fan favourite in Glasgow but his poor form and poorer attitude in recent months has many questioning his suitability at Ibrox.

Morelos’ has been a considerable stumble for a player whom Rangers were adamant they’d reject even £40m [Scottish Sun] for in the January transfer window.

At one point thought to be irreplaceable at Ibrox, should Atletico make the interest concrete with an offer you’ve got to think both Rangers and Morelos will be tempted to listen to it.
