Having heavily featured in pre-season, and scoring in the 2-1 win over Blackpool, the Ibrox kid has set his sights on making a bigger impact on the team this season.

Speaking ahead of the season opener with Livingston, Charlie McCann has rejected the suggestion he could go out on loan this season.

Instead, McCann believes that he is ready to make an impact on the first team right now in comments that have shades of the impact made by Phil Foden at Man City.

Charlie McCann hopes for Phil Foden-esque impact at Rangers

Now rated at £127m [Daily Mail], Foden, 22, came through at Man City without ever going out on loan and Rangers fans will be excited about the prospect of Charlie McCann doing the same.

The midfielder is now widely regarded as amongst the brightest talents in world football and if Charlie McCann can have a fraction of the impact at Rangers the Ibrox club will be on to a winner.

“There’s always an option of that. But at the minute I’m looking at staying and trying to push for a spot in the team this season,” said McCann [Scottish Sun].

“I think you’ve got to take it as it comes and see day to day what happens, but I want to build on last season.

“I broke through a little bit last season towards the end. Hopefully this season I can break through a bit more.

“Being in and around it every day, you’ve got to make yourself feel you’re part of it. You’ve got to buy into it. I think I’m definitely trying that.

“Being around the quality of players every day does give you a lot to learn.

“It also gives you the confidence that if you can hold your own with these players, you’re doing something right.”

The emergence of Phil Foden at Man City and England proves that young players can make the grade without going out on loan and Rangers will be hoping similar of young Charlie McCann.

All the signs are good and you’d certainly be a brave punter to bet against the kid building on his four appearances in a Rangers shirt this season.

Meanwhile, one Rangers-linked playmaker is set to leave his current club but the president is decidedly coy regarding precisely where he is heading.
