Scott Arfield wants Rangers to take the pressure off Alfredo Morelos

Alfredo Morelos’ goal burden has been eased in recent times, and Scott Arfield has demanded it continues.

The Colombin hitman has fired home 16 goals in 26 Rangers appearances this season. It’s a sensational return, but many were worried by the fact he seemed to be having a hard job getting a helping hand from team-mates.

That most certainly isn’t the case these days. In their last six matches, Morelos has bagged only three of Rangers’ 15 goals. That’s not a criticism of the striker, but more an acknowledgement of how the rest are finally chipping in.

Arfield told the press he was delighted with the form of everyone going forward, and that they must continue in the same vein.

“With confidence in the whole team then you feel a great part of it. It is not just an individual thing of getting goals, we need to take as much pressure off the number nine as possible and thankfully the last couple of week have kind of done that.

“It’s about getting on with it and being given the freedom to make the runs into the box to cause problems.

“If you are not the one finishing it off then you know you are making runs to cause problems for other players.”

Everyone playing their part

Rangers have had a fantastic six different goalscorers in their last two matches alone. Everyone in the attacking side of things are starting to make their own individual impact on the goals front.

Arfield in particular is really coming to the fore. He’s scored in his last two matches against Livingston and Motherwell respectively. Next on his list will be the team he scored his first Rangers goal against – Villarreal.

Morelos has actually only bagged two of Rangers’ eight group stage goals this season also. The midfield are certainly doing their bit to keep the pressure off of him and allow him to enjoy his football.

The one player who could also now do with getting in on the act is Kyle Lafferty. He was signed particularly to share the Morelos goal-burden. Instead, he’s only managed to slot home four goals since his summer arrival. He also scored in Villarreal, however, so tonight could very well be the night he gets back on track.

Regardless, it’s great to see so many players enjoying their football for the Rangers supporters. The team is now full of goals, and finally from different sources.
