Rangers boss Michael Beale has dropped a major hint that Scott Arfield will agree a new contract at the club as his current deal ticks down at Ibrox.
There is much debate regarding the future of the 34-year-old midfielder, who was Steven Gerrard’s first signing at Ibrox way back in 2018.

But there can be little doubting the contribution of the goalscoring midfielder, who has netted a number of important goals for the side over his near five years in Govan.
Playing 226 games for Rangers, the midfielder has an impressive return of 43 goals from the middle of the park.
Scott Arfield contract hint
That stint is now expected to be extended as Rangers boss Michael Beale drops the biggest hint yet that Scott Arfield will sign a new contract rather than leave the club in the summer.
It comes with the Gers boss claiming all the players who played in last weekend’s 5-2 win over St Mirren – where Scott Arfield scored the final goal – will be at Rangers next season.
“Last week everyone that played – barring maybe Alfredo and Allan – will be a Rangers player next season and it was as strong performance again with five goals,” Michael Beale told Sky Sports.
“Since I’ve come back in I’ve tried to pick continuity and we’ve seen that a lot of the same players have played and the results in the main have been good with 19 wins in 22 games.
“I’ve been delighted with the application of the players and what I get to do in the summer is add my own stamp on the group a bit more.
“I always have a fingerprint on the group because I was here when a lot were recruited but I get to really put my stamp on it in the summer and I’m excited by that.”
Rangers midfielder deserves opportunity
Whilst the Rangers boss opened speculation on Alfredo Morelos, the contract situation with Scott Arfield appears to be pretty much cut and dry.
One of the veterans and leaders in the squad, with the likes of Allan McGregor and Steven Davis potentially set to move on perhaps Arfield’s leadership can be invaluable.
But it’s not just in his influence as a man on and off the park that the club will get value from the former Burnley and Falkirk midfielder.
Arfield might be getting older, but his return of nine goals this season exemplifies the goalscoring contribution Scott can have for Rangers either from the start or from the bench.
