Former Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie has waxed lyrical over an attacking midfielder linked with a move to Rangers.

Christie is set to play for Scotland at the World Cup, and he has been keeping an eye on the Scottish Premiership despite not playing in the league.

The 31-year-old is currently plying his trade at Premier League outfit Bournemouth.

Ryan Christie admits Lewis Ferguson is tough to play against

Christie admitted that Rangers target Lewis Ferguson is horrible to play against because of how combative he can be.

He admits that he did not like playing against him, but named the Bologna captain as the toughest player he would want besides him in midfield.

The former Celtic man believes that Ferguson is someone who is known for flying into tackles and putting his body on the line for his team.

Speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show, he said: “I’ll go Lewis Ferguson.

“Yeah. I’ve played in midfield with him a couple of times. I like playing with him because I think he’s going to be flying into tackles right beside me, which I quite like.

“I’ve played against him as well when he was younger, and he was just coming through when I was at Celtic. I didn’t like playing against him. Like throwing, like nipping me in the mouth.

“I thought, who is this little guy? So yeah, it’s good when he’s on your side.”

Which midfielder can make Rangers title winners?

Danny Rohl is looking to sign at least one…

What can Ferguson bring to this Rangers side?

Ferguson is capable of playing as a deep-lying playmaker, but he is someone who’s at his best while playing close to the opposition goal and looking to make things happen.

He has an outstanding engine on him and does not shy away from the dirty side of the game either, as he is prolific at winning duels.

As he’s very good with his passing and also quality ball control, Rohl would likely play him as a number 10.

This would limit his defensive responsibilities as well as get the best out of him in the final third.

In a 4-2-2-2, he may be deployed as one of the two deep-lying midfielders, but he could also be asked to play in the right half space as an inside forward.

Along with his technical abilities, he will also bring much-needed leadership to the dressing room, and if there is a deal to be done, the Gers will surely consider it.
