Sam Allardyce is not entirely pleased as news emerged recently surrounding Rangers and Danny Rohl.

The former West Ham and Leeds United manager claims that he was perplexed by the handling of the situation at Ibrox last week.

Rangers lost 2-1 to Hibernian, but little was made of the result, as other talking points dominated the headlines.

Sam Allardyce not impressed with how Rangers handled James Tavernier’s farewell

Big Sam reveals that he was not pleased with Rangers’ handling of James Tavernier’s situation in the build-up to the Hibs game.

The right-back claims that he was told by Rohl that he would be given a start and would be allowed to lead the team down the middle with his kids next to him.

However, due to his suffering an injury, the Rangers boss felt that it was better that he would come on as a substitute rather than start the game.

This did not sit well with Tavernier, and he left Ibrox before the game, before returning for his farewell.

Allardyce believes that, as there was nothing left to play for, Rohl should have listened to the Englishman and let him start the game.

The former West Brom boss jumped to the defence of the right-back and stated that loyalty is a two-way street and clubs need to hold up their end too.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Podcast, he said: “That’s what I mean. There’s nothing to play for. If there was something to play for, I could understand it.

“But there’s nothing to play for. You’re disrespecting the service he’s given. Because we always talk about loyalty.

“Players are not loyal. What do you mean? Well, loyalty works both ways, doesn’t it?

“Like you mean, if you’re, the club will not be loyal to you but it decides that it wants to get rid of you.”

What next for Tavernier following Ibrox exit?

Tavernier will now be considering his options as he has no plans to retire following his Ibrox exit.

The Englishman has interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, and that could be his next destination in the coming weeks.

Tottenham are admirers of Tavernier, and could sign him if they get relegated from the Premier League.

Wolves are also keeping tabs on the situation, so the 34-year-old will have options in the United Kingdom should he decide to stay closer to home.
