Rangers fans rarely agree on anything, however, the need for extra depth and quality at centre-half is obvious to everyone.
Philippe Clement has been linked with Marseille’s Bamo Meite already only for the versatile defender to get injured almost immediately – a familiar story for the manager.
Despite their being nothing concrete other than a European based report, Ryan Porteous has emerged as a name in connection with Rangers as his future at Watford comes into question, accodring to Fussball Europa.

Rangers named in Ryan Porteous exit report
On paper, the Scotland international ticks a lot of boxes in terms of the eye test as news emerges that Porteous ‘wants to leave’ Watford.
The 25-year old is aggressive, physical and has the pace needed to cover the large spaces that playing at the back for Rangers demands.
Having missed the opportunity to sign Porteous on a pre-contract agreement, it would be a painful financial hit to have to pay an expected seven-figure fee for a player who knows the SPFL well.
Porteous has an underrated strength in his passing which could come in handy, should Rangers join the chase for his signature.
Craig Moore backs Porteous to be Rangers option
One person who reckons that Porteous could be a valuable member of Rangers squad is Craig Moore, a scout and agent who was the perfect example of what a no-nonsense defender should look like:
“He knows the domestic game inside out, said Moore on the Go Radio Football Show.
“If he is not playing at Watford. Look, those type of players are certainly one to consider for me. If they are not getting game time down south. Not a bad option at all. We know he would be absolutely fine up here.
“He’s not going to run into anything that he isn’t aware of. He’s seen it and experienced it. Naturally left-sided I am sure and quite physical. He will be one of a few options I am pretty sure Rangers will be looking at.”
Nils Koppen can’t take any more risks with Rangers recruitment, especially in defence, and if Porteous is good enough for Moore, that should be all the recommendation that the club needs.
