Despite Ryan Kent’s Liverpool contract running up until 2022, the left-winger has admitted he wants to stay at Ibrox.
Kent has been a revelation in recent weeks, and is really coming to the fore as Rangers’ number one left-winger. An injury to Jamie Murphy showered the youngster with plenty of early-season responsibility. But, so far, Kent is looking like one of the standouts of the season.
As it stands, he’s Rangers’ best performing laonee. Despite some decent displays from the likes of Joe Worrall and Ovie Ejaria in recent times, Kent is certainly the highest performer.
The question hasn’t been asked too often yet this season, but it’s clear that Kent is very much open to a move to Glasgow on a permanent basis.
Speaking in the Daily Record today, Kent revealed that he would be supremey interested in any potential switch.
“It’s something I’d consider. Definitely. The fans are amazing here. The club has a lot of history. It’s an amazing club but it’s a conversation they will have to have with Liverpool – not me.
“The fans seem to really enjoy players getting forward and that suits my identity as a footballer. I really enjoy picking the ball up, dribbling at defenders and getting past them.
“When the fans are right behind me, it gives me confidence to do that.”
A must-do deal
According to the Record, Kent would cost at least £2million. As it stands, that would be an extreme bargain for the Ibrox club, and a deal that must be done.
Kent isn’t just performing well at the moment, but his potential is scary. At just 21-years of age, Kent has plenty of development left in him. At Rangers, we could see some of his true potential should he be picked up at the end of the season.
Going out and finding a better, more capable left-winger with similar potential for that kind of money is extremely difficult.
So far, Kent has been a terrific signing in the eyes of the supporters. After having a breakout performance against Dundee and notching his first Rangers goal, he’s kicked on well. Supporters as well as his manager saw him as the only shining light against Livingston last Sunday. At the moment, he’s the one bringing some real flair and directness to Rangers.
Outside of him, Rangers currently only have Glenn Middleton available to come in. Whilst Kyle Lafferty can play on the left-side, it certainly isn’t his natural position.
Any other potential suitors haven’t yet been recognised or named. If Kent continues to perform to such a high level, that won’t remain the case. Rangers, therefore, could do with continuing to make Kent feel loved at the club and make sure he’s itching to return come the summer.
