The 22-year-old midfielder is currently with Charlton Athletic but his contract expires at the end of this month.
Despite interest both at home and abroad, the Gers are set to land his signature [Scottish Sun].
Martin, who turned out against Aribo for Walsall during the first half of last season, believes Gerrard has secured an up and coming star.
“Aribo will be a brilliant pick up for Rangers,” he told the Sunday Post. “He is a young player I really like, a natural athlete and a box-to-box player who makes some terrific runs. He is a decent height and is physically powerful.”
“Last season he scored 10 goals from midfield, and I am sure if he went north, he’d make a big impact. Yes, it will be a step up to go from League One to having to go up against Celtic in Old Firm derbies a few times a season. But I am sure he will not just cope in the environment but thrive in it.
“I think there were also English Premier League scouts going to watch him at various stages of last season. So there are plenty of people who think he can go higher, and, for me, Scotland’s top flight is a perfect fit.
“I say that because I think he is a dynamic type, who would do well in a league which is quick and very competitive.”
Martin is the latest of many players and pundits to praise Aribo.
At just 22, he’s relatively inexperienced at senior level, but there seems to be a consensus that he has a big future in the game.
As we saw with the likes of Ovie Ejaria last season, temperament is as important as ability when it comes to making it at Ibrox.
Therefore, it’s encouraging that Martin believes he won’t be phased by the pressure in Glasgow.
Let’s hope there are no last minute hiccups and the Gers can tie this highly rated talent down as soon as possible.
