Richard Keys sparks Celtic meltdown with Man City Rangers comparison

Richard Keys has sent Celtic supporters into meltdown by comparing the situation surrounding Man City with that of Rangers in 2012.

The BeIN Sports broadcaster was speaking after the Premier League champions were charged for breaking financial rules in the English top flight.

The Middle East billionaire-backed outfit have been transformed since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008 and have spent heavily to emerge as the leading force in English football.

Man City have won four of the last five league championships but their trophy haul is now reportedly under threat after a four-year investigation found they’d allegedly breached rules over 100 times.

Richard Keys would claim on Twitter that the Man City situation bore a similarity to that at Rangers in 2012, suggesting the Premier League champions could be sent to the foot of English football.

“Do we think the charges levelled at City are in any way comparable to/worse than those that saw Rangers relegated to the bottom tier of Scottish football – without due process?” Richard Keys tweets.

“Good to know their CL titles are safe though.”

Richard Keys goads Man City fans with Rangers comparison

As reported by the BBC, the Premier League giants are accused of failing to provide “accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position”.

This information covers club revenue, sponsorship income, operating costs, manager and player remuneration and the breaching of rules relating to UEFA Financial Fair play and Premier League rules on profitability and sustainability.

The Premier League are also accusing Man City of being uncooperative with their investigation with Man City claiming they’re “surprised” by the entire thing.

Where Rangers come in is via Richard Keys who used the Ibrox side’s 2012 collapse as an opportunity to goad Man City fans who are clearly worried about the ramifications of the investigation.

But Richard got more than he bargained for when hordes of Celtic supporters jumped on the tweet, Sevcoing into their mobile phones and entertaining lurking Rangers fans in the comments.

Everyone knows that Celtic fans are the real experts when it comes to Rangers’ financial collapse in 2012 and they clearly did not appreciate the suggestion the club were relegated.

The comment of “without due process” has also triggered more than a few Parkhead supporters and after relative silence on this issues in recent years its great to see the Celtic support right back on top of it.

However, there are clearly differences in the situations at Rangers and Man City and we suspect the billionaire-back Citizens will escape with little more than a slap on the wrists.

Besides, if Man City were sent tumbling to League Two, would their legions of fresh supporters since 2008 stick with them on the climb back up the divisions?

Meanwhile, Todd Cantwell has been responding to controversy over his decision to leave Norwich City.
