Rangers will be kick-starting their 2026/27 Scottish Premiership season against Dundee United at Tannadice Park on 31 July.

Derek McInnes will be looking to begin life as Rangers manager positively as he has an appetising set of games to dig his heels into.

The first game at Ibrox will be against Hibernian on Sunday, 9 August, nine days after the opening match of the new campaign.

Rangers face tricky run in September and October with Celtic and Hearts away games

Rangers News has analysed all the league fixtures of the 2026/27 season, and the run McInnes will be most worried about will be at the end of September.

The Light Blues take on their arch rivals Celtic at Parkhead on 20 September, the first Old Firm derby of the season.

Following that game, they take on Kilmarnock at home, which they should be winning, but what follows are two tricky fixtures in October.

Which Hearts player(s) would you like to see at Rangers next season?

Derek McInnes may be tempted to sign one or two this summer!

They take on Dundee at Dens Park on 17 October, before McInnes’ return to Tynecastle Park to face his former side Hearts on 28 October.

The Rangers manager and Lawrence Shankland may not get the warmest of receptions there, in what could be a hostile game.

Should the Light Blues get more than six points from their three away games against Celtic, Dundee and Hearts, they would be well on course to be the favourites to win the title.

How Derek McInnes is likely to approach the Celtic and Hearts games

McInnes has shown that he excels in big-game management, and he’s exactly the kind of character that Rangers need.

They would be more disciplined with their press and exploit the spaces left behind much better than the Gers teams of the past.

He would also make them work harder in training on set pieces going into these two games, as such contests can be decided by moments of brilliance or a lapse in concentration.

McInnes is also expected to make proactive changes during games, which is in stark contrast to Rohl, who often made substitutions too late and failed to grasp the game state and help his team see out the result.
