Reports linking Rangers winger Jamie Murphy with a permanent move to Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee United have been shot down almost as quickly as they emerged.

An earlier report in the Scottish Sun claimed that the Tannadice club was looking to snap up the Ibrox winger on a cut-price fee as they look to bolster their attacking options.

However, the Dundee Courier are claiming that it is unlikely the Arabs will move for the former Brighton, Sheffield United and Motherwell man.

They also suggest that Micky Mellon’s side hasn’t made contact with Rangers with Murphy believed to be assessing other options.

The Daily Record transfer blog is suggesting the same.

Murphy, 30, had a successful loan spell at Burton Albion last season where he scored seven goals and laid on two assists in 10 league one matches as he worked his way back from injury.

The Scotland international was viewed as a key part of Steven Gerrard’s squad before suffering a painful cruciate ligament injury which kept Murphy out for almost the entire season.

Since then the winger has found chances at a premium and with Rangers looking to free up wages in their squad, the player’s exit could be sooner rather than later.

Murphy is also yet to play for Rangers this season and finds himself on the fringes of the squad at Ibrox.

Rangers fans have also been reacting to the news that another bluenose from within their squad could be about to head one of their fierce Premiership rivals.
